I have been seeing in a lot of marine tanks, many of them owned by people i consider to be seasoned aquarists an overflow that consist in just a bulkhead at waterlever with a strainer and from there just pvc tubing or a flexible hose all the way to the sump.

Regarding performance, sound and generally how good is this design as surface skimmer/overflow?

I only require a flow of 400gph for the setup im putting together, would that be posible with that design? what size tubing would you recomend?

Sorry for all the questions i would just rather use only one thread to ask what i would need to know :)

it could be better as a surface skimmer since it will take water from just below the surface too. it works as a overflow, but depending on your gph it may be noisy.

personally if i went this route i would put a small surface skimmer box infront of it to improve the surface film intake
