I am going through it right now. AC broke on Friday, they are putting in a new one today so I have been without this whole weekend and it has been the hottest all year (95 degrees). My tank usually fluctuates from 79-82 everyday. It got up to 86 saturday but I put a fan on it and cut the lights. It is staying at 82 pretty steady thank god. I have had the lights off for 3 days now, is that going to hurt anything?

I would say I run @ 82-84 on average. I've hit 86 before and everything is fine.

I do have a pretty strong powerhead in there keeping the water moved tho.

When my 35g was a FO, I had temps in the very high 80's, if not 90 with no fish loss. Granted, they were breathing hard to get oxygen, but they went back to normal when the tank cooled down.

someone once told me that if you constantly keep the temp in the 80s it promotes algae growth. but if you keep it a little lower say 75 degrees it wont grow as fast and as much. what do u think?
