I think my tank doesnt have any algae and its at 81 all the time...sooo i think it has more to do with water quality more than temperature, not saying it CANT be a factor..its just not in my tank.;D

i guess water quality would be the major issue. I feel like if the temp drops too fast or rises too fast that wouldnt be good for the coral? any thoughts?

If you keep your temp higher, you'll have faster growth of everything - pods, bacteria, algae, corals, and even fish. Biological processes almost always occur faster at higher temperatures that are within the non-destructive range of all of the molecules involved. All "biological" processes are are complex chemical reactions.

I mean, they used to do strep cultures by putting it on a petri dish (nutrient-laden material) and then putting the dish in a heated oven, because strep, like anything else, performs those biological processes faster at higher temperatures.

my tanks @ 79-81 dependant on time of day (change in room temperature affects the tank temp and during the day when its hot out the house AC is on and it gets cooler)

Me too, otherwise the fun will start the next time you happen to breathe within vapor-distance of the tank ;D

I live in Florida and I run 80-82. I do like the ice milk container idea for hurricanes. K+
