Mine are mounted onto the wall behind the cabinet. I am quickly filling my cabinet up, so I need all the room I can get.

    ReefSparky,
That's the fanciest extension cord I've ever seen. I'm guessing you made it yourself. Would you sell one to fellow 3Reefers?

Here is an attachment of how mine is wired, sorry I was too lazy to upload to photobucket! It is mounted under the stand on the center brace. I picked up this 14 outlet surge protector (largest I could find) of all places at Wal-Mart for 35 bucks, well worth it imo!

I don't know about "sell" but I'd be absolutely happy to make you one free of charge. You'd have to buy the materials and cover shipping. Give me week to make it and it's yours. I'd say conservatively it was about $50 to make. The large watersafe boxes are about five bucks, the small ones about 3. The outlets are maybe a buck a piece, maybe ten bucks for wire, 6 bucks or so for the SO cable (the yellow cable), the male cord cap, about 5 dollars. The liquidtight conduit that joins the boxes are about $2.50 apiece. (Peace of mind knowing someone with skills made it.. . priceless.) OK. Shameless self plug. My wife would say that's me tooting my own horn. Someone's gotta do it. :)

This would have to be plugged into a GFCI receptacle on your wall to be properly protected. If not, I'd have to incorporate a GFCI into the first box, and wire all receptacles downstream of it for the power center to be safe for the house, and for your safety when your hands are in the water.

You could also choose a different configuration. I only chose to make the lattermost 2 boxes duplexes instead of quads, because they house the bulky timers, and on a quad box, the timer might block more than one receptacle.

I'd be happy to help you out! ;D

the major thing is to make sure your electrical is is off the floor and secured as to not fall into the water or get wet and make sure it is grounded

Well said. Also, make absolutely sure your tank is GFCI protected.

Boy, I am ashamed of myself....I dont know how everyone keeps all their wires so neat and tidy. I have 2 GFCI strips, one on either end of the tank with 6 outlets. Off of one of each strips is another powerstrip surgeprotector. Almost every plug is being utilized...or will be IF THEY EVER GET MY SECOND LIGHT INSTALLED....GOING ON SINCE JULY 1st NOW.....dont get me started...longest darn install I have ever seen!

Anyway, I am the typical girl! No tool except my handy dandy 5-1 tool thingy that I got one time when I bought a car, and a screwdriver. That is it. My favorite tool is my butter knife...I use it for everything! So I bought some Industrial strength velcro thinking this would be smart and velcroed the strips to the upper part of the back of the stand away from the sump. WILL NOT HOLD! So they are dangling on the back of my stand. Luckily they are all away from the sump.

Which is good, because they have still never figured out the flow problem in the sump and there is a constant misting coming up from my sump...not good, plus there is air bubbles getting into the display tank (somebody I know figured out the problem in like 5 min. but it is going to be a major repair....but it will be done by the installers)

I guess I am going to have to hire a handyman to come out and drill some holes in my wall to mount these strips for me! But the tank is so close to the wall it is hard to get to a spot that it will hide the strips!

What is really sad...is back in June right before I got the new tank I had a fire from a faulty powerstrip and not having my wires properly mounted. I also did not have a GFCI..

Presently, my Power strips are mounted on the back of the cabinet. When the 90 gal tank is set up they will be mounted on the wall which is even safer than my current setup.
