guys i have a fast question here i will be upgrading my tank, which means i will be using my same filtration that i have on my smaller tank for my bigger tank. i have a 700gph filter on my 30g tank so when i put it on my 75g tank it should be fine but i would like to know how long can fish tank go with out filtration.

Like any at all or just reduced? With reduced filtration it can go a little while but you will start getting lots of cyano.

Hard to say, there's an awful lot of factors to consider. To ease the stress you could throw in a couple of air stones for surface agitation and if you run a chillier some ice blocks might come in handy. Maybe wouldn't hurt to skip a feeding or two prior to the switch. You'll want to make sure you don't have any outstanding water quality issues before you start. If it's only going to take you a couple of hours to get it set up I wouldn't worry too much. Just don't to forget to make sure the water chemistry is stable in the new system before you transfer your critters. Good luck!

Oh moving to a new tank that is easy they can make it a few hours with nothing they wont like it but move all your equip, LR and any sand you will be seeding with first that way there isnt to much more stress on your fish. I that is what I did when I moved from my 55 to 75 it took me less then a hour also. I would take 1/2 to 3/4 of your smaller tanks water and use a filter sock or something close then dump that water in your new tank to avoid any kind of cycle. Then just enjoy :)

Is the 80-100 lbs cured or dry base rock?

also i would 10000% highly advise u to use new sand...just seed it with ur established sand... alot of things can happen when transferring the old sand bed..

Personally I've never used mechanical filters in a reef tank. Live rock and a skimmer is all that's needed.
+2 on Saint Fan 240's advise get new sand and just a cup or so of your old sand for seeding
