The light I have above my tank shorted out and almost caused a fire. The good thing is that I smelled it and shut it off before any damage was done. The bad thing is that I do not have any light on my tank. I ordered a new Nova Extreme Pro from Dr's Foster & Smith and set up the delivery for Fed Ex 2 day Air.

Here is the question. Will my fish and BTA be ok without light for 2 days? I only had a couple corals and I bagged them up and took em over to my friends house. I am just unclear as too how much stress this will cause my fish and BTA and what else I can do. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure everything should be fine. In the ocean there are periods of rain and no light and everything lives on.

Yea, you'll be alright.. If there is a window near your tank, keep the blinds open and let the sunlight in.. You'll be amazed how corals react to sunlight inside your house.. It's better then nothing..

Many people shut there lights off for 3 days when they are battling algae. All fish and corals do fine. So it should be no problem.

I had my lights off for 3 days when I was upgrading them and only lost a small kenya tree. anything over 3 days might be something to worry about considering our corals are more accustomed to the lighting they have been acclimated to in our tanks rather than real-world effects.

Your tank will think a hurricane is coming through. Happens all the time. They'll be fine.

Just wanted to add, everything *should* be fine, if everything is healthy and thriving. If anything is stressed out or is having trouble it might be the nail in the coffin.

Everything was completely fine before the light blew up. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Exactly, hurricanes, you should see the state of The Florida Keys Barrier Reef after a hurricane. Chocolate milk turbidity and over cast for days.
