How long did it take for your nitrates to go down?

If your nitrites are 0 then you're almost there. Water changes will take care of the rest. Chaeto will also help. Just give it some time girl!! Don't be rushin' ;)

Nope, it's new. I was beginning to think my Nitrate test reagents were bad, but I've tested 2 other sources of salt water (not from my tank) and one was 0 and one was between 5 and 10, so at least I know it's not showing false positive on my tank.

Yeah, Magnus, it's just getting frustrating. I never had this trouble on my 3 old tanks but I also started with uncured live rock back then. I feel like the nitrate queen or something LOL. The nitrites have been 0 for a couple weeks now & we've had chaeto in there for a couple weeks too. The pods don't seem to be having any trouble, they're monkeying around in the chaeto like crazy. Chaeto seems to be growing too, as far as we can tell. Heck, with all the nitrates in the system it should be a giant fro by now! haha!

Thanks Offensetaken. I'll start preaching patience to my boyfriend. I still haven't managed to get patience to wear off on him instead of his impatience wearing off on me! I guess he sees it as a problem that needs to be "fixed" & I'm getting sucked into it LOL.

I initially told him it would take 3 months, and we're only a bit over a month in, so I'll just keep reminding him of my original quote of 3 months!

I have been in constant battle with Nitrates as well. I feel your pain. I have an established system that peaked up around 40 a few months ago. I did wc 3 times a week. Didn't really help. I have 3 reactors running, phosphate, carbon, denitrate, and am adding MicroBacter7 and Bio Fuel. Still at 10-20...
