How long did it take for your nitrates to go down?

Boyfriend got home early today and did about a 14 gallon water change, down to 20 now!

I had a canister filter on my tank. Was running at 40-50 PPM consistently. Got rid of it....did 2 20 percent water changes....added some live rock and cheato....and now I hold steady at 5 ppm.

I know what you mean. I had a fluval 405 canister/nitrate box. They're junk for reefing. Finally ditched it. Surprisingly I didn't have a nitrate problem while running it but I'm sure I would have with an increased bio-load.

I think the 405 is what I was using too. While they are tempting as they do a great job of clearing up your water....they are ultimately an enormous pain in the arse! 50 PPM nitrate was unacceptable IMHO. Its hard to believe what a difference it made to get rid of it.
