I had an Ebay heater that lasted about a year and a half. I still have the other one stored rarely used except for mixing new water. It was the Catalina 500W you see on Amazon and Ebay. I thought it was a decent heater but not sure how long they normally last.
Just bought a 300W ViaAqua and so far I like the way it has a separate cord with temp sensor.
So how long did your heater last. Please share brand and other info if you like.

It really depends on what heater brands you are talking about.

I have a jaeger one that works perfectly after 5 years. I also have a WON pro heat that lasted at best a year, and a stealth marineland that had lasted 3 years. Hydors seem to last pretty well too.

I would say the best is jaeger, 2nd hydor, 3rd marineland, an after that, it is a crap shoot.

I hear rena's are good too, but I have never tried them in my 25+ years of aquarium experience.

My old stealth lasted 4 years, but the new stealth pro only lasted 2 months.

I had an old Marine land that lasted about a year or so, then I bought another one, forget which brand, that I'm not sure how long it lasted. My temp was always up around 80-82, not terrible but I wanted to keep it lower. So I set the heater to 78, but that didn't do anything, so I figured it must have been the lights, so I added a fan and that kept it around 80. I found out later that the heater was broken and stuck in the "on" position. Luckily it was only a 200w heater so with my approximately 70 gallons of water, it could only keep up and not over heat the tank. I now have a new Marineland Stealth (maybe?). It has an led light to tell you when it's on or off and seems nice so far.

I have an old green ebo jager that I bought in 94 and am still using it. The other one I bought at the same time quit working a few years ago but I don't remember just how many but definitely over 12 yrs.
The newer ebos can't hold a candle to the old ones.
