How long do fish live?

    i have been wondering how long the smaller saltwater fish live. i realized that i have become so attached to my one fish. anyway this has caused me to wonder how long do smaller fish live.i know when they are full grown we really dont know how old they were when they came to our tanks. i have heard of people having the larger fish for 15 years. but from what im reading the smaller fishes life span is not as long. i know husbandry plays a big part in fish deaths. so its hard to pin point life span in a tank.
