Just wondering if anyone had any experience with attaching colt corals and how long it normally takes for a frag to attach well enough to be able to take off the string? I hear around 2 weeks. So far it's been about 10 days for my frag.

2 weeks , sometimes a bit longer IME
depends on how secure it was attached, which relates to how much work the coral has left to do in order to re secure itself

Yeah somewhere around 10-20 days depending on qaulity of attachment.

Rubber band that isn't so tight it cuts flesh seems to be the fastest IME

I got anxious and tried to move it after about 12 days and it unattached. So I did it again and left it a full 14 days and had no problem.

I did not use a rubber band though, I used a sword. Like, the plastic ones you see in cocktails. I stabbed it and a piece of LR rubble. I personally prefer to stab corals rather than rubber band them (things like colts, mushrooms, etc).

here are some pics of it.

once it attached there, I put it in this hole, where it promptly inflated and attached on the side:

Then, as it grew, it kind of split and migrated to a new spot. So yes, these can "walk" in a sense.

The stab is a good method too. I've seen people use stainless safety pins for this purpose as well.

Never the same twice, LOL! I had some leathers attach in just a few days...others I've fought with for weeks or even months.

Wow! Months? I would have been so frustrated by then! lol My colt is now fully attached now! It was attached only in 2 places so I figured that it was attached enough to take the shoe lace off. By the end of the same day it had full attached in the rest of the places it wasn't yet. It must have felt itself swaying in the flow more than it did when it was tied down and figured it would hurry and attached the rest of itself before it got swept off the rock. So, my colt is attached and very happy!
