how long for an ammonia spike?

    hi.. i threw 7 cubes of food to my 150 to start the cycle 3 days ago... anyone knows how long till i get my ammonia spike?

    there realy isnt a time line when certain chemicals show them selves during a cycle..some tanks may take longer than others..

    hey there. when it comes to cycling patients is a virtue. Just give it time it will come.

    There may be a general period where its expected that Ammonia, followed by Nitrites peak and then reduce , but it varies between systems and depends on method used to cycle - so somewhere between 2 and 8 weeks would be considered normal (IME)
    just believe it will happen and dont rush to add things until your positive it has

    Yea I know patience is the key... I was just wondering because my 29 took about 2 weeks to get the spike. And well this is a 150.. So I was curious on what would be considered normal like you said. Thanks.

    I am sure you have added enought for a start.. If u can go to your local fish market and pick up a fresh shrimp put it in a chunk of cheese cloth or old pantie hose dunk it in your tank and in a month or sooner pull it out.. and that should deff give you a good jump start,...
