I bought a Marineland T5 HO fixture this past April, and have been running it for the last 3-4 months about 10 hours per day. I am now finding that the bulbs are dimmer than they were. I don't have a light-measuring machine, but it used to be that I couldn't look directly at the bulbs when they were on, and now I can with no problem.

Is this normal, or would you consider this to be too short a lifespan for a bulb (and should I complain to the company)? I have previously been told that bulbs should last 6-9 months, not just 3-4?

T5's should last about one year +
Less if you overdrive them with ice cap ballast

A good reference for "higher end" lamps is 4,000-5,500 hrs or so. Or just divide that number by how many hours you run and that would give you days...
Unfortunately with mid to lower end lamps, mostly stock ones you cannot expect that much out of them...
