How long is recommended to run lights over the sump? I have a 30 G Sump/Fuge and I am using two Flourescent 23W Flood Lights on 12 hours off 12 hours. I do see my macro algae turning intensly Dark Green and also the sides of my plastic sump is covered with green algae. Is this OK?

Yes IMO - 12 hours of light on the fuge is good
do you run them in reverse of the tank lights? many people do, as this helps to maintain a stable PH in the DT

lights on in fuge at night means algaes are producing oxygen and using CO2 whilst algae in the DT are using oxygen and producing C02

this prevents a possible C02 build up, and the resulting PH drop that can accompany that

I bring mine on 1 hrs before the actinics go off in the display tank to get the algae woke up and working, and leave them on 1 hour after the actinics come on in the morning. Reverse light cycle.

I think 13 hours is the max you should run for chaeto, so a 12 hour reverse photoperiod is a good time.

I got a HOB fuge coming in, in a week or two, and I was looking at the rear of my tank and how much of my regular light is cast back there. When I put my light fixture over the fuge, it's gonna block some light, but definitely not all, if I run a reverse cycle, it's almost going to be like the fuge is lit 24/7.

    Would this matter?
