The tank was started on the 12th, it is now almost the 24th. I have yet to see any noticeable anything in the tank. Maybe on one of the rocks I can see a green spot coming in.. But isn't this something I should be expecting to see soon? My ammonia and nitrates are on the downward slope now If that helps in the diagnosis.

    Thanks guys

I didn't have diatoms start to show up until week 3 or so. Using (RO/DI) or tap will make a big difference also. The longer you leave your light on, they faster they will come/grow too :/ .... I'm waiting for mine to disappear right now...looks terrible, it's growing on everything

It varies in accordance with the amount of silicates available, The FishMan

I recall the fastest I have experienced diatoms was about the 3rd week and they where all gone by about the 6th week

but in other set ups, it has been after a month before the diatoms started appearing and maybe week 8 - 10 before they completely dissapeared

Just wait, they are coming. Then when they do, let them cycle themselves out. Your tank will look pretty rough for a while.
