My thoughts exactly. Mainly the reflector. Some of the better reflectors are designed to focus the light deeper. Kind like when you turn a maglight flashlight.

This tank is from kangym on RC site.
He runs T5 and has monti on the bottom and others down there.
So I think if you can do it with T5 you should at least be able to put a monti down there with MH.

To add on what Av8 and Guitarman posted. My lfs have some quality sps at lower lighting. Like sunset, superman monti that are in low par conditions. They arent nearly as colorful as they should be. But they grow. If he was to raise em 6 inches or so those corals would definitely color up to the colors we expect to see in those montis.

    (off topic)

seein that tank makes me wanna cram more into mine. I dont know how its done without having corals take over the next. Alot of fragging. Would love to see that frag tank. Ive given about 3-4" space between my frags. This guys tank doesnt have anymore room for growth. But thats a beauty of a tank.

Im running a outer orbit HQI/T5HO 250W MH's W/4x54 T5 HO's. I know it will depend on the corals just was curious about an acceptable distance without them dying.

Beautiful Tank. This is how I want mine to turn out.

I understand the color vs distance issue just was curious if there was a rule of thumb so to speak

    I agree totally.

Thanks everyone for your help it is very much appreciated.
