If its a 4 ft long tank, I think you will need two to get the full coverage. I only have two on my 120g tank, but it too is 4 ft long...so I was worried more about coast to coast coverage if that makes sense.

AI recommends 1 unit per foot. So by their recommendations..... 4. That is why i have yet to upgrade to LEDs lol.

Totally overkill... 2 will be fine for his 55g. 3 would be excessive but still nice for a fully sps stocked system.

Honestly, you will only want 2 if it's going to have any lps in there. You will want a little lower light area around the ends to hide chalice or meaty lps.

Isn't it one per foot if you are covering 24" front to back? This running them | that way vs -- that way. If you run them linear, which I would on a 55g, then 2-3 would be totally enough.

I have no coverage gaps (visible anyway) using only the 2 on my 120. I am running them at about 80% capacity at the highest point. I mainly have softies, LPS and just a couple of SPS frags. Been running for months now (since January) and my corals are doing great. I have no plans to add another light to the tank.

I have 3 on my 57 gallon which is 3 feet long. I would add another if my wife let me, the light just floods in and looks magnificent and my colors develop real well. That said, your SPS would be fine under 2 if they're not too high up and look good.
