I know several reefers that have airstones in their sumps. Helps with PH and other things.

I am talking about a saltwatertank. I put in bubbels because I have a closed hood, so I was thinking that not very much air was available at the surface as it is closed. That is why I put in a airstone, but a limewood one, with a fine mist as big bubbles gave me to much spray.

I have an airstone on my tank, but i also use it for my ozoniser. I just use a pump that is designed for the same literage of my tank.

The raison I put extra air in my tank is specially because I have a closed hood, so I am afraid that I wouldn't get enough oxigen in my tank at the surface.

Having a closed top isnt really a good idea. The tank needs to be able to breath(gas exchange).

My office gets in hot months sometimes up to 90 degrees. With an open hood the water was evaporating faster than I could refill it. Now I have a closed hood, with to small fans to extract the hot air from the lamps and a chiller. And now my tank stays at a steady 78-80 degrees the whole time.

Water evaporation is something that every reefkeeper has to contend with I'm afraid. A closed top is very bad as oxygen exchange occurs at the water's surface. Have you considered installing an automatic top off?

    Good article Matt. Thanks...

Explains again, the airstone in sump was probably what saved me from a bigger disaster then I had with recent over-temp experience.

    Cheap "insurance"
