I had one RBTA last February. It grew like crazy and split several times and long story short... we still have 5 in the tank and I sold 7 to the LFS after 1.5 years. This is in a Biocube 29 under LEDs with feeding.

Is it true that they split when they're unhappy? Or is that an urban legend?

It's a survival technique. They split so the other half of the nem can leave to try and find better conditions. Little does it know its in a box of water with no where to go.

That's only partially true. There are two sides to that coin. Yes, if conditions aren't great... it can split to hopefully improve chances of survival. However... mine split without moving consistent with conditions being good for the anemone. In this case, the anemone is happy so it can split as a way of reproduction (not only as a means of survival). I'm not saying it's because I have perfect water (I don't), but my RBTAs don't wander. One would assume they would if they weren't happy.

Are you trying to start a nemo tank so they may host clowns? or are you trying to start just a nemo tank?
If you just want to start a nemo tank I would go with Condy, they are cheap, come in different colors and they are cheap :) you can also keep a few together from what I have seen. But that’s all you can keep in the tank.

Im pretty sure that condys and clowns dont go together, being collected from different oceans and condys have a much more potent sting than some other anenomes sometimes killing the clownfish.

Anemones need a mature and established tank. I would not recommend one in a tank that has been set up for less than a year. Seeing as some of your other threads involve fish infected with marine ich, I would recommend getting that in hand before moving to a different venture and I would wait until you have a thriving tank with happy inhabitants.
