I would say you could get 2 or 3. There are a lot of different hermits. Some good others bad. I like left handed and scarlet the best

Hey jason, i have a question. For some reason my scarlets seem....to die alot....im not sure. do they have less "defense" than other hermits attacking them or...maybe shorter life span?

I find scarlets do much better when there's a lot of flow in the tank.

Scarlets get very big if given the chance, in relation to a 5 gallon tank of course. I would prob go with a couple of zebra hermits, which also can gain impressive size, or a bunch of the very tiny blue leg hermits.

Don't know. Could it be because they are more exposive so we by fewer and notics when they are not around. I've have 1 or 3 for about 2 years now. But I feel that any member of the clean up crew needs to be restocked on occation.

The hermits that don't get terribly big would be fine IMO. I do like the Blue-leg and Scarlets. Don't know much about the Zebra, Halloween, electric blue etc. as their very hard to find.
In your size tank though, I wouldn't get too many(maybe 5 or so). Don't forget the snails as well! Nassarius, Cerith, Astrea and Margarita>>>They are very beneficial and stay small...!

I think it depends on the size of the Hermits, the temp of the water and the container and the other recipe ingredients. So there!!

Now if you want to share recipes, then this is the place, however if you REALLY want to know about Hermit crabs and their needs and wants then pick another forum on 3reef :)

Nice with some Garlic and Parsley though :)
