I am thinking of doing a 36" run, that way I have room for other things on the back. Would 1 1" drain be enough?

I dont understand what you mean by a " 36" run " but if your tank is a 90g, a 1" drain is good. My 90g has only one 1" drain. Luna

No....that will not be enough. Definately use 2 bulkheads and two drains.

I guess my question would be, if you are already using a sump already, why wouldn't you put everything in the sump and use the full 48 inches. I'm not understanding what you would want to hang on the tank.
