I would like to get a firefish or 3 for my 75 gal. Will 3 get along, or would 2 be better?

Personally I would go with the trio, get them as young as possible and introduce all at the same time.

Cheryl, you may know better. However from what I have seen (seen, as in I have not personally kept more than one), similar to Chromis, overtime a group will turn into 1. I have seen cases where "bonded pairs" sold through Diver's Den had one killed by the other. I have seen much better success keeping one member from different species. So that would be my recommendation, but again I have no personal experience keeping multiples for the reasons mentioned.

    Hi Marshall,

Twice I have kept groupings of Fire fish long term without incidence. The only difficulty was obtaining young ones and getting them through acclimation, they can be touchy after shipping.
I kept odd numbers 3-5, one dominate fish/male did show posturing but never any overt aggression. It's actually interesting to watch the dominate fish use fins as signals to the other fish that they better fall in line.
I have never had an aggressive Fire fish, I am sure they are out there. Monterey Bay Aquarium has a nice little display of Fish fish, these are older fish and much larger.
This has been my personal experience. I had no idea that others considered them to be aggressive towards one another until after I attempted to keep the Fire fish in groups.

Good info Cheryl. I love hearing first hand experiences. Maybe the key is to get them young as you did. You will note even on LA it states they are not aggressive, except towards each other.

So it seems you can either get a young group (odd #'s) as Cheryl did, or get single member from different species.
