    Hey Guys
I am in the process of setting up a 40 breeder as a frag tank. I plan to light it with halide, and 2 or 4 actinic T5s.

I cant decide if I should go with 1 250w halide, or 2 150w halides HQI for maximum coverage.

    Any help?

you will most likely have trouble with coverage with 1 250w so IMO 2x150W but keep in mind 40 breeders are not very deep so the lights will have to be up pretty high. are you against going t5ho?

I'm not against it but I am a huge fan of halide. Love everything about it, including water shimmers.

Do you think 2x150w on a 17" high tank would be over kill for softies?

it all depends how high the halides sit off the water.

Well I plan on making a hanging canopy for the retrofit halides/T5, so I should be able to set it up so I can raise and lower the lights as needed.

    Thanks for the help.

woah, softies? 2x150 over a 40 breeder is almost overkill for sps haha. but whatever floats your boat i guess
