I haven't lost any yet (knock on wood!). But my gramma's tail has some newly discovered fungus, so we shall see.

I have lost a crab though, and it was really sad!

approximately 1700 Cichlids and/or community fish (possibly a slight exaggeration).

I had a batch of ick wipe out the community tank when I was on my honeymoon, only about 5 left standing.

My roommate was in charge of said community tank about a 18 months prior to that (I was gone for a semester) when Ick blasted it and knocked out about 1/2 my livestock.

I had a death fungus that wiped out all but about 4 of the cichlids once (roughly 80% of my stock); though the lace cats seemed immune. The LFS and I spent a couple weeks trying to get a handle on it. Finally, after having a 0% success rate at treating any fish to start to show signs of it, I went with the nuclear option, captured and 'disposed' of anything in the tank that showed even a hint of this stuff (swollen lips was the first sign, then it started creating lesions on their backs; never seen anything like it). I set my 42 gallon up as a quarantine for the survivors. I took out all the filters, all the rock, all the plumbing and either bleached or boiled it (depending on the material). I found the nastiest medication I could find (don't recall it's name but it was specifically labeled as a last resort) and ran it through the empty tank for a week. I reintroduced my surviving fish and slowly rebuilt.

Then there is just general cichlid moodiness. They'd all get along great for awhile, then I'd have a Kenyi go crazy and just take to killing everyone. Or I'd have a victorian decide that it was time to take out the world. The worst was my own fault. I had an experimental South American mixed in with the Africans (a Red Devil). He was a baby when I got him, 3 years later he was the biggest fish in the tank. He proceeded to take out a show Borleyi and a show electric blue ahli within about a month of each other. He's the LFS problem now.

I believe there is a multi-million dollar bounty on my head among freshwater fish the world over. I've certainly learned things the hard way on a lot of this stuff.

Like I said, possibly a slight exaggeration.

Unfortunately, over the last (roughly) 12 years, I have to admit that I probably broke triple digits, though.

Things like a school of neon tetras falling victim to an albino clawed frog and a hungry bala can run your #s up in a hurry, as can 3 separate pandemics and a semi-aggressive tank.

The oceans are trembling upon hearing that I've switched to salt.
