how many holes can you have in a tank untill it becomes too many??

do the holes affect the structural integrity?

what is the most amount of holes people have on here and what are all the holes used for??

i know there is a poll for how many holes people have but what are the holes used for and how many is too many?

    thanks

The answer will definitely depend on what size tank you're talking about.

say a large tank 5ftx3x3 lxwxh
also is it sensible to have 2 smaller holes for an overflow or one larger hole?

On my 75 gallon I have 5 holes drilled for a closed loop on the rear wall, and 2 on the bottom (one overflow one sump return).

For an overflow the best option would be to have 3 holes, One becomes the siphon controlled by a valve to siphon as close as possible to the flow rate of the return pump, the second is good for startup because the siphon takes a few minutes to start, and also a backup if the siphon stops for some reason or gets clogged. The third is to make it fail proof. This will result in a completely silent and safe overflow, without the siphon most overflows are noisy.

What kind of overflow are you running? If you're drilling I'd recommend a durso.

Yes to many holes will affect the structural integrity of anything..
And placement of the holes.. has alot to do with it..

Depends on the size of tank, and what you have going on..

what are your holes used for?? intake, CL, return??

does anyone have a hole drilled so that you can simply tap off water for a water change?? so no more buckets

i do like the idea of having 3 holes for the overflow boxes? im planning all of the holes to be in the back of the tank because there is a room behind it for everything

I've never done it that way, but sounds like a wonderful idea
