    When you say "side" panel, you mean the 24" side walls........right? You want to do what Otty has, which is to make the tank into a penninsula(sp)? I am not an expert by any means, but I would have to say between 4-6.

    That's a good question, WM. Without personal experience I couldn't offer any advice, but I'd guess that the further apart the holes are; the less apt they'd be to lessen the integrity of the panel.

    the number of holes will be based on how close the holes are to each other, all measurements are from the outside of the hole not the center, starfire is weaker than normal glass so have it tempered after drilling, any questions email me, heres the formula for minimum distance:

    x = 1.5 t
    y = 4 t
    t= thickness

    single hole: x from edge

    single hole near corner: x first edge, y second edge

    side by side holes: x from edge, 4 t apart

    side by side holes near corner: x first edge, y second edge, 4 t apart

    I would say at least 6, 2 for overflow and 4 for closed loop. I'd honestly say 8 if you can make it fit
