how many leds would you use for just blue on a 180

    I would do 48. 2 strips of 24 flanking your halides. This would be with a very wide lens ~ 120.

    If you think accent lighting & not full blown LED's, have you looked at stunner strips? I think the cost would come out to about the same & save the DIY part of the project.

    The stunner springs are expsive and.Idk how deep they go. But there like 80 bucks plus the 30 plug to even get them.to work is need 8 of them I have stuff I can use as a heat sink.allready so it just cost me.for wires drivers and leds

    I personally would use 60* Lenses on 3 rows of 12. The 60* lens will punch the light down to the bottom of the tank. I went with no lens on my 18" tall. that worked out fine. I forget the math i fugured it once but i think at 24" 60* lenses cover a radius of like 13" i think (I could be off, its been a while). so for the math that is 1 LED per foot which is only 6; however i would alternate 60* lens and no lens so that you dont get the "spot light" effect. I bought my LEDs at SatisLED and i would go with the meanwell drivers from http://www.rapidled.com/constant-current/[/URL]

    So 72 total blue leds ?
