I need to add some powerheads to my 90 gallon and eventually will have them on a wave maker device. I already have 1 Seio 620, but I don't want to dish out all that money for the more powerful SEIO's I just don't think their worth it, especially since I want wave maker functionality.

So would 3 maxijet 1200's along with a Seio 620 be sufficient for a 90 gallon with soft and possibly some SPS coral. I am also running a Mag 18 return pump so I get pretty good flow from that alone, however I don't know the flow numbers exactly but I estimate the tank gets turned over around 10 times an hour maybe more.

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Sean,
If your mag 18 is pumping up 5 feet from your sump to your main tank and you didn't choke it down with a small pipe size. You are getting 1200 gallons an hour just from that one pump. (12x)
I would like to put my power heads on a timer/wave maker controller also, but I don't have any experience with automatic controllers to help you out :(
4 nice powerheads like what you have and want to buy should be plenty for the corals that you have now and for future SPS corals. I know that some of my LPS and soft corals get mad at me when I place them in areas of high flow. BUt my SPS corals love it.
Let me know how it turns out.

    Jim,
Well the reason I said I think my mag 18 is only pushing around 900 gph is because I do have some 90 degree's and a flapper checkvalve on top of a 5' head so I think the flow is reduced quite a bit. I think I'm going to remove the flapper checkvalve one of these days. I check it about every 3 weeks to make sure its working, but I've read they really effect return pump flow. I know I can drill small holes in my return lines and get the same safety mechanism in case of a power outage.
