How many midday bulbs?

    I'm currently running 4 24" t5 bulbs on a 40g tank that is 20" deep. My bulb line up is two actinic, one purple and one 12k midday bulb. I think the wattage is a little on the light side and was wondering if I should put another midday bulb in.

    Tank has sps, lps and softies in it.

    With 2 actinic the tank is going to quite dark. You could switch those out for blue bulbs or one of them for a daylight. A common recommendation for 4 bulbs is 2 blue, a daylight and a purple/pink bulb.
