I have a 150G Tall aquarium. The sticker on the bottom says its tempered glass. So i know i need a overflow.

How many times do i need to turn the tank over?

Would it be beneficial to have a overflow on each end of the tank?

My tank is 48" wide 24" deep and 30" tall

    Thank you

You want the flow from the overflow to 5 to 10 times the volume of your sump.

You should get circulation pumps for the display. You want about 20 times for softies and LPS and 30+ for SPS only.

I plan to have pumps in the DT to move water. But to get water from the DT to the sump, would it be better to have 2 hang on overflows or just one?

So i need to turn the sump over 5 to 10 times and not the DT?

I would just do one 1200gph overflow box. and yes 5-10 sump turnover. and remaining will be from 2-4 powerheads. I have 57x in a 55g for sps corals. the higher the better imho.

How big of a sump/fuge would be ideal? I have about 45" wide 27"tall and 22" deep area under the DT.

So I dont need to filter 10times the DT just 10x the sump. The power heads do the rest.

I know that right now i want coral just not sure what yet.

So i take lets say 30-50x tank turn over, not to include the 10x sump turn over?

turn over includes your return pump + power heads. so the sump counts too. I would personally do 1200gph overflow, 900-1000gph return pump, 30g sump, and 3 1000+gph powerheads.

on my 60 I use an overflow box and turn 750gph, on DT has 3 PH's that turn 1500gph
IMO the sump is great for oxygen exchange and filtration via the filter sock and bubble reduction foam in the bubble chamber....I agree that gas exchange and filtration are very important I also believe that internal movement in the DT is just as important if not more as it will keep any deitrus in the water column to be remover by the overflow to the sump..
Just make sure your sump pump is matched to your overflow box......you can use a single overflow with dual suctions... Eshopps: Overflow boxes
I like the Eshopps boxes....you will always need to play with the flow to kep the noise down on any overflow box.
I have a 3.5ft length of airline tubing stuck in the downflow pipe out of the box and wrapped back under the overhang part of the box
I also do not have the drain tubing attached to the top of the sump..I have mine stuck straight into the sock itself....I hardley hear mine now :)
I actually hear more from the return to the tank....

Im hopping to save some money and either build a custom sump/fuge or find a cheap one on craigslist.

This is great news! I thought i had to move 10x the DT volume through the sump. So i can get buy with a 1000gph return pump and a smaller overflow. I like that the Eshopps are cheaper then the CPR i was looking at.

Okay, so i flow 10x the DT into the sump, and add 30-40x with power heads. Im still not sure how a filter sock works, but ive seen designs with a bubble tower filled with LR rubble.
