I get base for $4.50/lb, Fiji for $6 and Badonkadonk (Starts with a T, not Tonga, has a K in it) for $7/lb at the LFS, seems like I'm in a decently priced area.

Dang...here where I live in Louisiana, most places sell for $10/lb minimum with "Marshall Island" rock going for $15/lb. Gorgeous rocks....but add that up at 1.5 lbs per gallon.

Over here in PA the going rate varies...I have 3 LFS I buy from, they are all really good at what they do. I stocked by tank with 3.49/lb Fiji...They also have Bali alor for 7.99/lb and Tokata (sp?) for 5.99/lb...I also picked up the last piece of West African that they gave me for 3.49/lb...My buddy works at one of the stores and gives me Tonga for 3.99/lb and the other store sells their really nice Fiji for 6.49/lb...

I lost count too! We started off with about 20 of LR and 25 of base. We added a little more live, and I've added base several times until it looked right. We have some nice walls and caves - the wrasse and coral beauty especially weaving between the rocks. I added rock over about 5 months until I got it to look right, so I would say we have at least 1.5 pounds per gallon.

I will be the extreme but I have a 120 gallon and only run with about 90 pounds of rock, it is a reef/fish based tank but my fish guy is a believer of less rock to let the corals have growth room and doesn't believe in stockpiling a tank with LR. The general rule of thumb though seems to be 1-1.5 pounds of LR per gallon.

ok its a rule of thumb yea but its also useless to have all that rock jam packed in a tank if their is no flow passing throu it this is very important
