Well im in need of a new light for my 29 gal. reef since i cant use my 400 watt metal halide over it lol. I was woundering if I should go for a 2 bulb or 4? Also my tank is only 30 inches long so would it make much difference if i get a 24 inch light with 24w bulbs or go with the 36 inch with 39w bulbs and just have it hang over a little. Also anyone want to buy or trade for my metal halide light??

Hey. I would def. go with a four bulb fixture. You may not need the extra wattage, but it will be their when you do. Check out marineandreef.com. Lots of quality fixtures and descent prices. As far as a 24" or 36" fixture I would prob go with the 36". That way you would know it would cover your whole tank and you would have no lighting dead spots. How about a 30" fixture though?

36" is way too much. I have the same (basically) tank as you, 29 gallon, 30 inches long. I bought 2 2 bulb fixtures (24") and its PERFECT. When I hadjust one centered on the hood, it completely filled the tank with light. Now i have the 2 fixtures stretched across the tank so they overlap in the middle.

If you dont want to get 2 seperate fixtures, just get 1 4 bulb fixture and center it. It will be plenty enough light. Sorry for not having pics of mine, I'm at work and wont be off till tomorrow A.M.

Also if theres anyone that would like to trade me for a 150 watt MH. The one i have is a pendant to hang from a ceiling or retro fit it. Has worked great for around the 2 yrs that iv had it and is still in use over my freshwater tank.
