hey I have a 90 gallon with a couple soft corals. My tank is about a year old and Im trying to get some coralline algae to grow and know I need better flow than what I currently have. I also am battling a bad cyno problem which I think I can attribute to little flow. So any advice on how much flow or type of power head I should get for my tank?

    thanks

Well, you are looking for at least 30x turnover, which for you is 2700GPH. At least. I have 2600GPH in my 75g and I could probably go more. Your starting point would be in the neighborhood of 3000GPH.

What kind of flow do you have right now? List anything that moves water.

    I'd put 2- Koralias #4 in a 90

in general: 10x the tank volume for overall flow, internal tank flow can go upto 50x the tank volume

    Mg for coraline.

I agree with both of their suggestions. I have a 38 with about 1200 gph (31.5x turnover) and it's not excessive. I'd try two Koralia #4s to start and see how you like it. Won't be too much, but you may find it enough (depends on what else you have in your tank for water movement). As long as your nutrient levels aren't the problem, 30x turnover rate will really help prevent, or get rid of, cyno.

If you want coralline algae growth you should shoot for these params:

10 dKH, 400ppm Calcium, and 1350ppm Magnesium. You could go higher than those but you'll see growth at those levels and those numbers aren't too hard to maintain.

I agree also on the koralias. They made a differance in my tank the day I put them in. The fish love them too.
