If it was, you could easily add an isolator/expansion joint to the piping. This will all but eliminate vibrations.

alright here are some more options....sump and return will be in another room so noise isnt much of an issue

    mag 24 -$100

    Blue line 70 $200

    Genx -150. $200

    Mak4 $125

    iwaki 70rlt (japanese) $190

    plus the original idea

    reeflo dart 3600 gph $150

so any input on these pumps? are they good prices(all used)? etc anything youd have to say?

i have a mag drive 12 and love it! handles head pressure wonderfully, and built like a tank. i would think you would do great with a mag.

IMO return pumps are pretty inefficient, power hungry beasts. It would be much better to hit the minimum return flow and get better powerheads.

I'm probably going to wind up doing that, I'm still looking to get about 10x turnover in sump so I'm still trying to work out which return to get and whether I should go higher and dial it down a little bit

I would go with as little as possible though the sump. Your going to get less bubbles and less noise with a smaller pump. Sump is mainly for Skimmer and makeup water in my opinion. Use propeller power heads like the hydor evolution to get your turn over in the tank.

alright heres another option, im considering going with the reeflo dart again since its at the right price however i have a different option possibly for it though....at 0 head it puts out 3600 gph, at 6' its around 3000 gph....its going to be about 5' head plus ~4' horizontal plus atleast 3-4 elbows which conservatively id figure itd be about 2800-2900 gph, now im also going to run a 29g fuge seperate and maybe my skimmer off of the return do you think id be ok with the dart all things considered?
