I have a 90 cube which has struggled with some algae, I am advised that the best way to slow/stop algae is increased flow ?

Currently running 1200 gph return pump 2x1040 Korilia circulation pumps and a Wp-40.

Is this too much for a fowlr ?

    Hi Scuba Ken

my philosophy on flow is simply, if the sand bed stays where you put it and the fish are not all huddled together in gaps behind the rockwork, then you are fine IMO

fish occasional do take a short while to adjust to conditions, so if you are upgrading or recently upgraded your flow, give the fish a few days to acclimatize to the new water movement, and IME they will very soon do so

Flow in itself though isnt the source or the algae it needs nutrents to grow so you have to look at where thats coming from. The flow only prevents dead spots where said nutrients will build up and provide prime growing conditions.

Personally, I don't believe flow alone will prevent algae. I've seen it grow quite well in swift rapids and even in waterfalls. As khowst suggested, you need to find the source of your nutrient issue and correct it.

The 40 is amazing, paid $103.00 for a power head that would normally cost almost $450.
Its been running for 4 months 100% now, my only comment would be that on full wave mode its a bit too much for a cube.
When my new 300 gallon tank gets set up at the end of this month this will move into that tank.

But, yup, its a bloody good pump

I heard good things about them but its always good to get a direct response from someone who actually has one, I have a 72g bow with 2 korilia 1040's but Damn a 300g now that's a hell of an upgrade there. you think one wp-40 is good or keep all 3 running ? I saw they have the new wp-25's in stock but its not much of a prices difference for the reduced flow. Where did you purchase it?
