I have a 120g RR Marineland tank and I have an Eshoppes 200RS sump. In the sump I run 1 filter sock with a bag of carbon in the sock. I have an external H&S skimmer, I run in sump, which is fed by my Reef Octopus BR110 biopellet reactor. I have approximately 1000ml of vertex pellets. My return pump is a Quiet One 4000, which is adjustable. I have no refugium or live rock or sand in the sump. I slowed the flow through the sump as low as I can, only because I read somewhere I should. My question is, since I run and external skimmer fed by a reactor, does it matter how fast the water flows through the sump? The reason I ask is because now that I have slowed down the flow through the sump a lot of the dusty particles in the water column that used to get sucked into the filter sock seems to hang in the water column longer. The slower sump flow is would not affect me right?

The suggestion is 8x to 10x the volume of the sump. This allows your skimmer to be its most efficient due to greater dwell time of the water and lessens the chance for micro bubbles to get to the display.

I would let the skimmer have unprocessed water for better filtration.

You may need to add a power head to the display to keep the fines suspended lond enough to get pulled into the sump.

I am not sure I understand. I have my biopellet reactor being fed by a pump in the same chamber as the skimmer. I have read that it is a good idea to plumb biopellets directly into the skimmer, which I have done. The skimmer is an external model which means it is also a recirculating model so flow through should not matter. Or does it? Please advise me.

Are you saying I should plumb my skimmer directly off the tank feed? Wouldn't I get a lot of mulm accumulation in the bottom of the skimmer?

Also, I have an mp40 and a maxijet 900 with sureflow 1600 mod on it. The stuff stays suspended, but when I had max flow through the sump it was sucked out quicker.

    Any other opinions?
