Size is a big factor,I paid $59 for a 21/2 inch blue maxima, same store has 1-11/2 insh gold ones for $39.Ive read threads on this site that say that clams closer to three inch size require less feeding and generally are more likely to do well in the aquarium.

It depends on the individual health and color of the clam. But the most important thing is: How much is it worth to you? After I spend x amount of money on it, will I regret that? You can buy something you know in your mind is a great deal; but if it doesn't make you happy, it wasn't worth it.

Advanced Aquatics? I saw that thing a couple of years ago.

I paid about $40 for my Maxima. It was really small (2 inches maybe) but has been doing well and growing.
