    Hello everyone

I was wondering if 400 Watts of metal halid lighting would be too much for a regular 29 gallon tank. If it is ok which intensity should I get. 15K or 20K.

    Thanks

I would say yes that 400 would be far to much for a 29. You would prob incur massive bleaching from your coral. Not to mention that heat would be a major issue. I would maybe stick with something around 150w for a setup like that.

That will be WAY too much! That would burn everything in your tank including your fish. I would go with 150 watt at the very most! 400 watt metal halide is for about 100 gallons or more. And it will save you a lot of money going from 400 to 150 in electricity and cost. The 400 watt would probably put your temperature above 100 degrees fair.

You could hang it 18" above the tank to alleviate the heat issues, but you will most likely fry most animals. 150W or 175W would most likely be better. What are you looking to have in the tank?
