so im setting up a mainly lps tank with some brains,acans,1 xenia colony a few sps and clams

the lighting is going to be led 120 optic so im assuming that will cover the spread for 180 gallon tank so the same lighting used for the clam(intensity wise) will be on the lps
so will that be too much light ? since the lps will be directly under the light almost

What type of clam? 120 degree optics probably won't penetrate down to the bottom of a 180 gallon, so, if the clam is something, such as a maxima, that can go up on the rocks, that would be necessary as they need a lot of light and with such lighting will need to be high up, directly under the light. The light will be at least a few orders of magnitude lower on the sand, so, the LPS should be okay there, as long as there is enough light still. Also, what light, for a 180, you will probably need multiple fixtures to cover the length, I don't know of any single fixture that could cover a 180 lengthwise.

im actually not that picky on the clam

i was thinking crocea and probly a pair of deresa's

the person on here "reefbreeders" claims his led fixture will give solid ratings 30 inchs deep
you think theres any true to this because i was basing my tank on his fixtures hes selling

I would plase the crocea high on the rocks as it is a rock boring clam and light loving.

I would think your LPS will get too much light unless you keep them on the bottom to lower third of the rocks. Get the dimmable fixtures.

have you checked out the fixture i mentioned? it seems weird that par ratings werent established before the light was released for sale it seems a few members have said its awesome but for the ammount of money im putting into this tank it better be a damn good light

i have not marked off t5's yet but i cant find anyone that makes a 6 foot t5 bulb and i would wonder if the bottom of the tank would get enough light there its like a crapshoot with lighting

i think i might even do the ati sunpower? good system? or go with the power module not even sure if i see the difference other than price

120 degree optics may not be good at 30" probably need 60 degree. Some LPS can do quite well with low light though as well as softies like mushrooms.

ATI and UVL make 60" T5 bulbs if I remember right.

I have the value fixture over a 24" 20 gallon. You will want 2 unit sover your tank as well as 60 degree optics, imo. Contact Logan with Reef Breeders. He's honest and gives great advice.

when your able to get contacted back by reefbreeders he gives good info
problem is you have to harass them to get messages back

the first time they messaged me back they answered 1 of 6 questions now its been a few days and ive yet to hear anything back and i was really interested in a few of the 32 inch fixtures

He has a small operation as a whole and is in the process of expanding I believe. He does respond on here as well.

Did you try contacted them on the message board, e-mail or through PMs? I would give them all a shot. How long is the tank?
