i don't even know what i have on my 45 gallon, i thought i did anyway all i know is that it's a coralife lunar something it has 4 bulbs however there not all separate, two bulbs in one. i can't even find the fixture off of coralife's web page, it came in a yellow box. Anyway if i upgraded to a 75 gallon could i buy the same t5 lamp again and put two on my 75 or should i go down the halide road. can someone tell me the pros and cons of halide lighting and the cost?

The lights on your 45 were power compact bulbs. Completely different from T5. A 4 bulb T5HO fixture will allow you to keep what ever light needing animal you want.

LED is more expensive at start up but cheaper in the long run with less energy use and far greater life of the bulbs.

MH are the least efficient bulbs in energy use and can cause heating issues necessitating using a chiller which will use even more energy. Cost is more than T5HO but less than LED.

I've thought about led but i don't like what people said about there corals loosing color not bleaching though and i know people have good luck and the store i go to uses leds in their tanks but it's not like a corals are there more than a month or two. However i love the shimmer but im going to miss the atinic color in the evening because isn't leds have all mixed atinic blue and sun white. Any one that's been doing leds for more than a year without problems can you please tell me what led rating i need for a 75 gallon reef tank?

LEDs have given me better colors than mh, and T-5. You can still do the actinict, simply turn the whites off for a half an hour before the blues go out. I'm sure others will chime in.

The better LED fixtures either have separate cords for the actinics and 10,000k so you can control each separately, or they have controls built in so you can do the same with only one cord. You can get very nice fixtures (IMO) for around $200.

Can you please tell me which one you bought and tell him is this enough light to hard corals. i saw a 75 gallon at the store i go to and today i would've made the call for measurements but their closed, i'm going to sound stupid saying this but it's a long tank will the light from the leds make it to each end well? Again only experience with leds is my light in my sump.
