I have a 29gal Biocube coming and have 35lbs of live rock. Would a 20lbs of live sand be enough?

    a lb per gallon is a good rule. I'd get a 20lb + 10lb bag for a 29g, IMO it'll give you a nicer sandbed.

I would use maybe a cup of live sand...

And use dead dry sand for the rest.

If you are referring to "live sand" that's been sitting in a bag, on a shelf, in a store, that's not "live sand" but a bag of dead and decaying crap. ;)

It says live sand on the bag. If not that, then what should I get and where would I get a cup of live sand from?

apologies, I didn't fully read your post, my reply was concerning the amount of sand. Inert or dead sand can become "live" so as Pered had said, you can get 90% inert sand and then just add some live sand to cultivate it.

Usually if you're lucky you can get a cup of live sand from your LFS or a fellow local reefer.

1-1.25 lbs / gallon gets my vote
