I know it sounds crazy right ... can't have too much LR.

however, I've read that too much live rock in a sump, can end up just being a detritus trap ... and thats what I'm trying to avoid.

I have a 92 gallon corner tank with about 200 lbs of LR in the main display, and 20 in the fuge area.

I am in the process of breaking down my frag tank, with about 40 lbs or live rock in it ... and I wanted to just put it in the sump of my main tank.

so the question stands ... can you have too much LR in your sump? at what point does it stop being effective, and become detrimental?

I asked the same question a few days ago because I just started my fuge. I was told the same thing, if any rock only use 2 or 3 smaller pieces because it will grow unwanted algae and need to be cleaned. Just go with some sand/macro/and maybe 2 smaller rocks otherwise you are going to have more headaches down the road.
