Is there a rule of thumb to go by for how much LR to have? I once heard lbs. should equal tank volume plus half meaning 100 gal would have 150 lbs please advice.:-/

minimum 1 lb per gallon. Some people go all the way up to 2 lbs per gallon. Depends on what kind of fish you plan to keep and how much swimming space they need. Also depends on the look you want.

I like to do it by volume as different types of rock weight different amounts. 50lbs of Florida rock will look like a lot less than 50lbs of fiji rock. I recommend that you fill your aquarium about 1/3 of the volume with rock, appearance wise.

How do you stack you live rock as this can make all the difference, my DT has around 1/3 filled but rock at angles and stacked to give large spaces between rocks (lots of caves) not dry wall style...

I seem to have very small amount of rock compared to other tanks, but I like to give plenty of room to my corals to grow, my fish to swim and caves for my shrimp.

Plus I based my system on the fact that more space between rocks will promote better gaseous exchange and a healthier system.

Thank you everyone thinking of replacing the fish in the tank and was worried about space so I was thinking of taking some rock out of that tank and puting it in the other 125 Im about to setup.
