Currently I have a 120g, in the end I would like to work my way up to a 180g. I know I would need more rock, I currently have 3 ai sol whites on tank, and I believe my protein skimmer is rated up to 180g. Not sure of my sump is big enough, most likely not. How much more of an investment would I be looking at? I would need more powwrheads.

Probably would need another light fixture if you think the AI are right for your 120. A stronger heater or another heater. Sump if doable but I would advise getting the largest sump you can to increase your parameter stability. If you increase the size of the sump a stronger return pump would be a good idea. I agree on needing more circulation. Maybe a new skimmer if you can not keep your nutrients in line. I would get new sand for the change over. Just throw away the old.

    Key things to consider are:

    Return Pump
    Skimmer
    Lights
    Sump
    Circulation Pumps

Can you list out your current equipment?
