Anywhere from 36-72lbs depending on density. No glueing necessary, but you can.

Rock weight and size really depends on how pourous the rock is. Some of the pukani rock for example is very purous and very light for the size. 25lbs in a 36 gal tank is going to fill it up fast. I used 30lbs of marcorock in my 29g and it gave me a quite a filled up tank.

It really comes down to how you aquascape it into a the look of your choosing.

There is not correct answer. you could have 5 lbs, with just 1 fish in there. and be fine. It depends on your bio load. the more fish, the more rock you want to accumulate more bacteria that break waste down.

a rule of thumb is usually 1lb per gallon, i would just follow that and add accordingly.

Wouldn't porous rock have more surface area? 5 Pounds of porous rock can have more surface area than 5 pounds of dense rock. Thus, the porous rock would be better for the tank?
