How much time and money have you spent?

This is like asking what a women's age is. It never should be asked & if so very low!

Our spouses never wants to hear the real figure. Saltwater = a lot!

hmm 1500$ for equipment(tank, skimmer lights and pumps), 300-400$ on supplies and parts (plumbing parts, salt, base rock) and close to 600 for livestock. all in less than a year!

 

Yep....it is a joke but if he knew how much I spent over the years, he would shut me down...or try to anyway. I think I'm pretty thrifty and it could have cost me a lot more than it has.

Ok...let's see....$100 on a used 95 gallon tank drilled for saltwater complete with fans, $60 on a huge canister filter (regular price $400), 72 inch coral light with three 15,000K bulbs, actnic bulbs, and LEDS regular price $1100 my price $362, numberous corals (too many to count) at approximately 60-75% off LFS store prices....a couple hundred pounds of live rock total cost $200....traded 5 silver dollars that I paid $3 apiece for 10 years ago for a bio cube last summer complete with stand, extra bulbs, filters, and salt..Traded cichlids for some of my saltwater fish.

I probably have several thousand invested in my tanks if you count chemicals, salt, and the extras I couldn't get wheeling and dealing.

TIME: Hours of sitting and watching my corals and critters grow...priceless.

i have 3000.00 in just tank, stand, main pump, skimmer, light, reactor, uv, and last but not least controller. i will not go into lost corals, fish that jumped, fish that were removed and found homes for because they became evil, leathers i just removed because i wanted to go another route, rocks that i paid way to much for... i have branch. oh its not seen now. so do i want to go into the loses? and mistakes? items i got cheap on and had to buy again? NAAAAAAAAA i think i will leave that be. now lets add the fish up in the tank 640.00? corals....ok im going to stop. not even a year into this tank

 

I just ran a few figures and would say I have at least $5000 in mine including all equipment and livestock, give or take, since day one... Though, I could be in for twice that AFAIK...

 

Awww, 4 years now and more Than a year worth of salary,

 

that i believe!

 

Four years and still going strong at a young age, cost dont even want to think about it. Still loads of fun and learn something everday.

 

Oh now that one is rich- I WILL remember that one for sure. I cant say what I have spent- but it is all in the "box"- I keep every reciept - I lost count years ago.
