Ok, so I made a huge not thinking mistake. I finally got my refractometer calibrated and was shocked to find that I was at 1.20 Sg. I instictively grabbed my aquarium salt and dumped a little into the tank.... right onto my trumpet Coral.... it immediately responded by retracting and now it has a couple of brown spots =-(. How much damage did I cause to learn never to do this again?

Lots. If it even survives, it will definitely have chemical burns. Always alter SG SLOWLY through small water changes and (if you're raising it) topping off evaporation with SW. Never EVER dump salt in an occupied tank.

Ok, well the good news is it is looking much better. the brown spot is gone and the coral is open again. I may of dodged a bullet here.... I will update with a picture in a couple days when it recovers more. The thing has taken off in the 3 months I have had it in my tank. Go LED!

I use Kent reef salt, and it says right on the bag "can be added directly to tank" (or something like that) I can't believe they print that on there.

I've learned the easy way that things that happen fast in an aquarium are never good.
