    i bought a cheap bulb once. i will never do it again. this is one of those things you dont want to go cheap on. the extra $20 or so on a bulb is worth it.

    I know a guy who develops lamps and he says any lamp has a measurable shift in spectrum after 6 months. He says that for ultimate performance you should change at 6 months but a years is safe with reasonable quality lamps.
