I have had my RO unit for about 4 months now and i'm wondering what has to be eventually replaced and after how long? I think the membrane has to be replaced, but i have no idea when. Can anyone help me out?

What type of RO/DI system do you have? Does your system come with a TDS meter? I measure my input and output. Currently my input is about 24 ppm and my output runs around 0-.02 ppm...

when i bought it it came in a white box with no markings or instructions lol so i have no idea. It has 3 canisters on the bottom, a membrane at the top and a clear canister with green and white beads in it if that helps at all. And no i dont have a TDS unfortunatly:(

    Membrane every 2 - 3 years.
Everything else once a year is my experience but your tap might be different.
Get the free TDS meter from that post in the news section.

My r/o unit is from Omnifilter and says to replace the membrane every 1-2 yrs and the rest of the filters every 6 months or so, depending how good/bad your water source is. If you bought the unit new, I wouldnt worry about it for another 6 months. If you bought it used, I would replace every filter. You never know how old they are. Hope this helps, Luna

Sounds like a Aquasafe. I have one that was deliver in the same unmarked box. I tend to replace the filter (1st and 2nd stage) every other month, the Carbon filter (3rd stage) twice a year. the DI resin (green beads) when 50 % are white. and if you have to replace the RO you might as well buy a new unit. It costs about the same

If the first and second stage get too dirty the production will slow and you TDS will go up. Best to get a TDS meter

If you replaced the prefilters at about every 15,000 gallons of water then the R/O membrane will last several yrs I just replaced our at 3 Plus yrs of age the chlorine and chlorines in the water are what kills the membranes . And use 1 micron prefilter.. All makes of the filters are the same only one or two companies make the elements Kold Sterile is the way to go.. for anyone looking to get a water treatment set up..
