I have a 125 mixed reef tank. Even though Im in this hobby over 10 years still have one dilemma. I feed my fishes every other day with frozen Rod's food and Mysis shrimps soaked in garlic and selcon. On off day I put Nori for my Tangs. On sites selling fishes most of them saying to feed them 1,2,3, times a day. But I'm sticking to my schedule and they look great... I recently bought McCosker Flasher Wrasse. Its my first one. Never had Wrasses before. And again Im reading that Wrasses should be feed several times a day... Is that right? I have a lot SPS and water must be pristine, feeding that often will put extra nutrition in my water.. Any experience wit Wrasses? Please let me know. Thanks.

Mine get few twice a day. really a time and a half. I drop some pellets in when I come home from work, and towards evening I actually feed the tank. Mine are FAT!!! I have a mel and a xmas and they been fine. Mel had for probably 2 years now. With a tank that size if it is mature they will find plenty of pods and other goodies to pick at thru the day. People can say feed 2-3 times aday but realistically that isnt always happening with a working man (or woman). I have never had a job where I could come home at lunch and feed fish. There are some such as leopard wrasse I think that are more demanding but like mine provide enough natural habit and they will be ok. I think the 2-3 time is really to get them adjusted to a tank or if keeping them at a tank that is either just narely big enough or with a heavy enough biolaod where grazing becomes competition and if it does it will show sooner than later.

You only need to feed what your fish can eat in about 2 minutes each feeding. Also, your light schedule can be set to allow for proper care and maintenance after work; none of our pets come from central US time zone. In fact, the majority comes from different time zones from all around the world. They will adapt to whatever light schedule we provide.

So you guys don't agree with what heard from many experienced reefers that all fish need is to feed them every other day.... (as I'm doing).

It really comes down to what kind of fish you own; but most fish will be fine with feedings every other day.;)

Im not worrying about fishes thats been in my tank for years. They know whats going on ;););) Im worrying about my newest friend. It is McCoskers Flasher Wrasse. Newer own a wrasse, and as always some sites suggesting feeding few times a day. Like I said my schedule for years its been every other day and Nori on Off days....But some says Wrasses require feeding every day few times....Im worrying about new friend but I think he will be fine like others....I hope...

Every other day feeding isn't natural to most fish - not even twice a day feedings are. Most land carnivores tend to eat and then sit around/sleep to save energy until the next hunt. Fish are always on the hunt - and most have a large enough food source that they are constantly snacking. Swimming takes a lot of energy and their stomachs are meant for infrequent, large meals so it's best to feed as often as possible rather than large meals. Usually once or twice a day is fine, but it depends on the species.

Humans could survive on every other day feedings too, but it isn't exactly fun on the starve days.

I also only feed my fish twice a day and as far as I am concerned if they need more than that they can hunt and kill their own food, plenty of bugs in tank for them to eat if they get to hungry.
